Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi has begun a four-day visit to Japan on Monday. The visit will focus on enhancing military cooperation and strengthening the strategic partnership between India and Japan.
On the first day, General Dwivedi will meet Sibi George, the Indian Ambassador to Japan, at the Indian Embassy in Tokyo, where they will discuss the evolving dynamics of India-Japan relations, with a focus on regional security and defence cooperation.
Key discussions are slated for Tuesday, October 15, when the Army chief will meet with senior Japanese military leaders, including General Yoshida Yoshihide, Chief of Staff of Japan’s Joint Self-Defence Force, and General Morishita Yasunori, Chief of Staff of the Japan Ground Self-Defence Force (JGSDF).
The meetings will focus on expanding military collaboration, sharing strategic insights, and exploring new areas of cooperation. General Dwivedi will also be honoured with a ceremonial Guard of Honour and will pay tribute at the Ministry’s Memorial.
On October 16, General Dwivedi will visit the Fuji School, where he will engage in discussions with Lieutenant General Kodama Yasuyuki, Commanding General of the Fuji School. During this visit, discussions will centre on technology and training partnerships. He will observe an equipment and facility display.
The visit will conclude in Hiroshima on October 17, where General Dwivedi will lay a wreath at the Hiroshima Peace Park to honour the victims of the atomic bombing. He will also pay homage to the Mahatma Gandhi statue at the Peace Park, symbolising the significance of peace and reconciliation.
