Republicans Are Worried After Donald Trump-Kamala Harris Debate: Poll

Republicans are nervous following Tuesday night’s presidential debate between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris, according to a new poll from Prolific.
After Trump and Harris went back and forth on numerous topics, including the economy, abortion and immigration, 86 percent of Republicans said they still plan to vote for Trump, but 40 percent admitted they were worried following his performance.
“These findings reveal a significant shift in voter sentiment, with many Republicans expressing concern despite their continued backing for Trump. Kamala Harris’ strong performance has resonated across party lines, indicating her growing support in critical demographics,” Andrew Gordon, a senior research consultant at Prolific, said in a statement.
Only 16 percent of Republicans rated Trump’s performance as excellent. At the same time, more than one in five, or 24 percent, of Republicans called Harris’ performance excellent or good, and about the same percent said Harris had won the debate.
Across all respondents, 57 percent said Harris was the victor.
Some of Trump’s most criticized moments were when he did not say clearly one way or the other whether he would veto a national abortion ban as well as when he said he had “concepts” of a health care plan.
Americans’ reactions to the debate could be reflected in financial support for the two nominees, as well. In just the first 24 hours after the debate, Harris’ campaign received $47 million in donations, the largest increase to her campaign funds since she raised $81 million in the day after announcing her bid.
Trump’s fundraising campaign was said to end August with $295 million, while Harris started this month with $404 million.
“While our fundraising program continues to show historic strength, this momentum cannot be taken for granted,” Harris campaign chair Jen O’Malley Dillon said in a statement. “We cannot underestimate the strength of Team Trump and their strong fundraising and organizing efforts intentionally designed to divide and sow doubt among Americans. We cannot let up until we defeat Trump once and for all this November.”
Since the debate, Trump has said he does not plan to do another with Harris.
“When a prizefighter loses a fight, the first words out of his mouth are, “I WANT A REMATCH.” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post Thursday. “KAMALA SHOULD FOCUS ON WHAT SHE SHOULD HAVE DONE DURING THE LAST ALMOST FOUR YEAR PERIOD. THERE WILL BE NO THIRD DEBATE!”
Newsweek reached out to Trump and Harris for comment.
